How to choose autoflower seeds for a Canadian grow
Autoflowers start flowering by age, not by day length. That is why they suit Canada so well. Plant after the last spring frost and you can harvest before the first autumn one, and indoors the lights can stay on 18 hours a day from seed to harvest. The trade-off is size: autos stay smaller than photoperiod plants and yield less per plant. They suit balconies, short seasons and growers who want a harvest without managing a light schedule.
The fastest autos we carry
Listed flowering times across our autoflower strains run from 7 to 11 weeks. For the shortest seasons, start with the quickest:
| Strain | Flowering time | THC | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Critical Kush Autoflower | 7-8 weeks | 21% | Indica-dominant |
| White Widow Autoflower | 7-8 weeks | 26% | About 60% indica |
| Afghani Autoflower | 7-9 weeks | 21% | Indica |
| Granddaddy Purple Autoflower | 7-9 weeks | 20% | Indica-dominant |
| Pineapple Express Autoflower | 7-9 weeks | 23% | Sativa-dominant |
Product pages list flowering time, THC and genetics where the breeder publishes them, so you can compare strains side by side.
When to plant outside
Put autos outside once frost is no longer a risk: around mid-May in southern Ontario, earlier on the BC coast, and late May to early June on the Prairies. A plant started then is usually finished by late August or early September, ahead of autumn rain and frost. Where the season is long enough, some growers fit in a second run by starting again in early July.
Growing autos indoors
Autos do not need a switch to 12 hours of light. Most growers run 18 hours on and 6 off from seed to harvest. An autoflower's growing window is fixed, so avoid anything that stalls it: start seeds in their final container where you can, and go easy on heavy pruning.
Autoflower or feminized?
Choose autoflowers for speed, simplicity and short seasons. Choose feminized photoperiod seeds when you want bigger plants and more control over size and timing.
Where you can grow
Every province except Quebec allows adults to grow up to four plants per household, and Manitoba requires them to be indoors. Our guides for Ontario, British Columbia, the Prairies and Atlantic Canada cover local rules and frost dates.
