So after harvest and curing this bud is choice. Grew two plants and the buds were so different. One had light blueish green buds that were plump with a fruity taste and smell. The other had buds that were real dark green with a hint of blue with bright red hairs. Completely caked with resin. The longer they cure the better they smell and taste. This is my new go to bud.

Sherbet and cookies
Gelato came out of the San Francisco Bay Area as a cross of Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. The Sherbet side gives the fruit; the Thin Mint side gives the mint, the dough-like sweetness and the dense, frosty buds. It sits close to balanced at 55% indica and 45% sativa.
Many plants turn purple in late flower, with orange pistils standing out against dark calyxes.
Hunting phenotypes
Gelato became famous through numbered selections, single plants picked from seed and kept as clones. Regular seeds put you where those first hunters stood: every plant is a little different, some leaning fruit, some leaning mint and dough, some stretchier than others.
To run a hunt, start more seeds than you need, flower the females, and take a clone of each before the switch so the best plant can be kept. Males with tight structure and a strong smell when you rub their stems are the ones worth keeping for pollen.

How to grow Gelato
It is a photoperiod: veg under 18 hours of light and switch to 12/12, then plan on 8 to 9 weeks of bloom. Cookie genetics can be slow in veg and sensitive to overfeeding, so keep nutrients moderate. Grown outside in a full season, the label gives around 500 g per plant.
Sex the plants at pre-flower and remove the males before their sacs open unless you are collecting pollen.

Why buy Gelato as regular seeds?
For breeding and pheno hunting. Regular seeds give males for pollen and a wider spread of female phenotypes to pick a keeper from.
Does Gelato turn purple?
Many phenotypes do, especially when nights run cool late in flower.
