Most Sour Diesel sold today is feminized. Regular seeds are different: they carry the full genetic spread of the cross, males included. If you want to breed your own diesel line, or grow out a handful of females and keep the one with the loudest fuel smell, Sour Diesel regular seeds are the ones to buy.
What to look for in a keeper
Sour Diesel plants vary. Some lean toward the Chemdawg 91 side with sharp, chemical gas. Others show more Super Skunk, with a sweeter, skunkier base. Rub the stems in late veg and again in mid-flower; the plants with the strongest sour fuel smell are usually the ones worth cloning. Look at bud density too, since the airier phenotypes are easier to keep free of mould.
Sexing regular seeds
A regular pack gives both sexes. Around the switch to 12/12, look at the joints where branches meet the main stem. Males show small round sacs; females show white hairs. Pull males early unless you are collecting pollen, and if you are, keep them well away from your females.

How to grow Sour Diesel
Expect stretch. This is a sativa-dominant plant and it grows fast after the flip. Top it, spread it under a trellis and keep a carbon filter running from mid-flower on. The label rates its height as medium, and flipping early helps keep it there. Outdoors in a warm season a plant can give up to 600 g. Our Sour Diesel grow guide covers timing in more detail.
