the outside of the box
Pineapple Express is a sativa-leaning cross of Trainwreck and Hawaiian genetics. The Hawaiian side gives the tropical fruit, and Trainwreck brings a sharp pine and lemon edge and a vigorous, branchy plant. The name took off with the film of the same name, and the strain has been a seed-bank staple ever since.
Does it really smell like pineapple?
Many plants do. Ripe buds smell of sweet pineapple and other tropical fruit, with pine and a little cedar behind. Some phenotypes lean more toward Trainwreck's lemon and pine, while others are almost pure fruit. That spread is exactly what Pineapple Express regular seeds let you explore.
Picking a keeper from regular seeds
A regular pack gives males and females in roughly equal numbers. Sow more than you plan to keep, and sex the plants as soon as they show pre-flowers at the nodes. Clone each female before flowering, then keep the cutting from the plant whose smell, structure and bud density you like best. Males can be kept apart for pollen if you are breeding.

How to grow Pineapple Express
As a sativa-leaning photoperiod, it stretches after the switch to 12/12. Top it in veg and spread the branches under a net; it takes training well. Flowering takes 7 to 9 weeks, fairly quick for a sativa-leaning plant. Outdoors it does best in a warm, sunny spot, and in most of Canada a greenhouse protects the late buds. More on the strain is in our Pineapple Express seed review.
