Sour Diesel has a nose nobody forgets: raw fuel, sour citrus and a pungent funk that clings to everything. It came out of the East Coast scene from Chemdawg 91 and Super Skunk, and it is still the reference point for every strain sold as a diesel.
Why it smells like fuel
The fuel comes from the Chemdawg side, a line known for sharp, chemical, gassy aromas. Super Skunk adds the skunky base and a little sweetness. Together they give the sour diesel smell the strain is named for. Indoors that makes a carbon filter essential; the smell gets loud in flower and stays loud through drying.

How to grow Sour Diesel
Plan for height. This is a sativa-dominant plant that the label lists at 150 cm and taller, and it can double in size after you flip to 12/12. Flip earlier than you would with an indica, when the plant is about half the height your space allows.
Top it in veg and train the branches flat under a net. A flat canopy turns the stretch into many even colas instead of one tall spear. The buds are long and spear-shaped, airier than an indica's, which helps against mould. In mid-flower it drinks and feeds heavily.
The label rates it intermediate. Expect around 500 g/m2 indoors. Outdoors in a long, warm season a single plant can give up to 700 g, but in most of Canada it is safer indoors or in a greenhouse, because a flower started by shortening days runs into October.
