Named for the fruit
Mandarine smells the way its name promises. Squeeze a flower in mid bloom and the first note is tangy, bright citrus, closer to mandarin or clementine peel than to lemon. Behind it sits an earthy base, and the cured jar finishes with a light pine note and a lingering sweet orange.
It is a pleasant, medium-volume smell rather than a loud one, which helps where odour is a concern, though a carbon filter still belongs in any indoor flowering space.
Short by nature
The label lists Mandarine as short, 60 to 100 cm. That makes it one of the easier photoperiods to fit under a low ceiling, on a balcony or among taller plants in a greenhouse. Because it stays compact, the job in veg is to widen it: top once, pull the branches outward and let several tops develop at the same height.

How to grow Mandarine
Veg under 18 hours of light until the plant is close to the width of its pot, then switch to 12/12. A short plant does not need a long veg, and a few extra days of growth matter more to the harvest than extra height would. Flowering runs 8 to 10 weeks.
Keep the canopy open with light defoliation in early flower and lower the humidity toward the end. Outdoors, harvest falls in the first half of October in southern Canada; a greenhouse helps in a wet autumn, and a sunny spot can give around 400 g per plant.
