Named after the film, kept for the fruit
The strain took its name from the 2008 film, and growers kept it because the plant really does smell like its name. The Hawaiian parent brings the tropical side: pineapple, mango and a juicy top note. Trainwreck adds structure and a sharper edge of cedar, pine and pepper that stops the sweetness from turning syrupy.
The label lists the flavour as fruity, sweet and tropical, and that is how the room smells in late flower. It is a loud plant, so plan on a carbon filter indoors.
Built tall, so plan for it
Pineapple Express grows long branches with plenty of vigour, and it keeps stretching for a couple of weeks after the flip. Top it twice in veg and spread the tops under a screen, or bend the main stem over early so the side branches catch up. Supercropping the tallest tops in early flower keeps the canopy level. The label rates it intermediate, mostly because of that size; the plant itself is not fussy.

How to grow Pineapple Express
Veg under 18 hours of light until the plant fills about half the space you have, then switch to 12/12. Flowering takes 7 to 9 weeks. A screen of green turns the stretch into many even colas, and around 500 g/m2 is a realistic target for a well-filled tent.
Outdoors, the Hawaiian side wants warmth and sun. In southern BC and southern Ontario a plant that starts flowering in August finishes around late September or early October, and a full season in the ground can return around 500 g per plant. Choose a sheltered, sunny spot and stake the main branches before the flowers get heavy.

100% success rate with these seeds, and a great strain! I tried some seeds from another distributor, and they were all duds. Had a few of these left over, from a few years ago and they grew long tap roots in one day! Very happy with the quality of seeds at the seed pharm.
